Riomaggiore
is part of the National Park of the Cinque Terre and is a World
Heritage of Mankind (UNESCO).
Riomaggiore is the first village when arriving from La Spezia.
The village is a small cluster of houses at the bottom of the
valley near the sea. The houses are one against the other and
crossed by narrow roads and covered passageways. The terrains
surrounding the center are covered with terrace vineyard farming
that create a renowned white wine which has a unique perfume.
A pearl of the Cinque Terre, its origins date back to XII century. “Rivus
Major” was its antique name and the largest of the two
streams that flows through the village. The walk to the marina
is quite significant among the colored houses that seem to hold
each other and interupted at the center with the boat slip. The
small beach “Fossola” is on the left side of the
marina and there is also the Torre Guardiola” path which
is an extraordinary pathway covered with botanical plants and
naturalistic observations. The most unforgetable path is that
of “Lovers’ Lane” which connects Riomaggiore
with Manarola. |
